Marking Time

Today is our anniversary. I have been married to my best friend for 32 years. When we woke up this morning I had to ask “Is it today?”. Today is not a “high holy day” in our relationship, in fact there have been years when the day has passed, unnoticed by either of us. This morning, we recognized the day, but likely won’t do much more about it.

Recognizing the day does allow for some reflection. We were pretty young when we got married. Some may have said we were naive. Both of us were students working on finishing our degrees. We were so keen to get life underway, to experience all that it had to offer, and to do it together. We had dreams, and a few goals, but mostly the past 32 years have not been filled with a lot of forward planning. We’ve met opportunity along the way and decided at each fork in the road which way to turn. God has provided a lot of forks and some of them have been difficult, with neither option seeming to be what we really want.

Looking backwards we can recognize blessing at each turn in the road. We have been blessed over and over again.

  1. Congratulations you two. It was as a pair that you came to the Camino and as a pair that you have become friends, hosts, and fellow pilgrims. May there be many many more blessings at each turn in the road.

  2. Oh, what a wonderful photo. How sweet you both look! Congratulations! I have often heard you refer to each other as best friends, and I love that. Wishing you another 32 and more, friendship and love and all good things. xo
