The Flying Fire

Last week I wrote about our experience at the Pilgrim’s Mass at the Cathedral in Santiago.  One of the highlights, or at least unique things, about that service was the huge incense censor that was swung over the heads of the worshipers.

The prof for our course was at the service the day before we attended and captured the spectacle on his iphone (bad). I’m glad he did and I share it here with you.

Enjoy, I’v never seen anything quite like it.

  1. I watched the youtube and couldn’t help but laugh a bit. And it is somewhat scary too. It looks like it’s gonna hit the cameraman. What is the meaning of it?

    • When we went to the service, we were in about the same place, back about 15 feet. They originally did this because the pilgrims smelled so bad after their journey. This was the way to neutralize the air again, or at least cover the smell.
