We are a little more than seven weeks from the beginning of our trip to walk the Camino to Santiago de Compostela.
We have begun to “meet” our fellow travelers, or at least have seen pictures of some of them. The group is smaller than expected, which has meant some changes to the itinerary and limited services from our guide, but, do you really need a guide on a trail that 200,000 people walked last year?
Another backpack has been purchased along with some new lightweight clothes. We are getting ready to go. This week we will book our flights. We could fly out of Montreal with some of the others but Buffalo is $400 cheaper and five hours closer.
One thing we will be doing to get ready is to practice walking. Yesterday was the first practice, 10km around a county block. We did it in about two hours. We both had a nap in the afternoon. I don’t think we are quite ready yet. We weren’t even carrying our backpacks yet! By night we were both pretty stiff. Need to go out again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day……
I am really excited about this adventure. Today, through the wonders of the internet , I’ve been watching other pilgrim’s videos, reading their blogs, looking at their pictures, just to get some more ideas on what we can expect. I know from our bike touring that this will give us a glimpse of the experience, but once you are in there it is always different.
In a way, the journey has begun.
